How will we communicate in 10 years?

Communication is the meaningful exchange of information between two or more participants. It is constantly changing and evolving throughout the years. Progress occurs when people are aware and can understand the information discovered by others. If not, this information will be of little or no value at all. Without communication, science will not progress. Communicating is a huge part of our lives, as it helps express our ideas, feelings and opinions. More importantly, it helps us to understand and accept one another.

When I was young, I remember how people used to communicate by talking personally, writing handwritten letters and calling through the telephone. A lot has changed over the past years. Devices used for communicating have become complex with added features and applications. People, nowadays, use the smartphone, tablet and the internet, which has made communicating faster and more convenient. Through the passing years, we can look forward to the launching of more updated and technologically advanced gadgets that will make life easier at the touch of a fingertip.

Ten years from now, communication will undergo a major shift in the technological world. Basic cellphones will no longer be available in the market. It will be replaced by smartphones which will be less expensive that ordinary people can now afford to buy it. The internet will continue to play an important role in communication. Video calls or video conferencing will be more widely used since all televisions and laptops will have built in webcams. LED televisions that are now for sale already allows video streaming and internet connection but in the future it might have more advanced options. Social networking sites will launch new products, features and applications that will allow users to communicate with people around the globe more easily than before.

In the future we may possibly see robots being used in companies and even homes. The smartphones and tablets will not only be handheld computers used to browse the web and do business transactions but it will be modified into a device using the augmented reality system where you view the world and get real-time digital information through a technology overlay. Translating devices will be available that will allow people to communicate with other countries and culture without the need of an interpreter. A new holographic technology is being developed that projects three-dimensional images from another location in real time.

Another breakthrough in communication tools is not impossible to predict given that people continue to discover new gadgets and devices that will outdo previous inventions. Watching science fiction movies like “Star Wars” and “Iron Man” gives us a preview of what the future would look like. Flying cars, robots, state-of-the-art computers and holograms are some of the things we get to see in these movies, thanks to advance technology. But who knows, maybe a few decades more, these can all be a reality.
