Fans go crazy over music artists and celebrities. Their concerts,
music videos and movies are widespread. They have increased their fan base around
the world through social network sites. Ordinary people have entertained and amazed
viewers of Youtube around the world with their diverse talents. All these have been
made possible by means of multimedia.
We
have heard so much about it but what exactly is multimedia? Multimedia is a
combination of text, graphic, audio, animation and video that is delivered
interactively to the user by electronic or digitally manipulated means. The
term “multimedia” was coined by singer and artist Bob Goldstein to promote the
July 1966 opening of his “Lightworks at L’Oursin” show at Southampton, Long
Island. In the intervening years, the word has taken on different meanings
until the 1990s that multimedia took on its current meaning. We are now living
in a world where multimedia and technology have become an essential part of our
lives. It has tremendously changed the foundation of different industries such
as entertainment, business, education, science and the arts.
In
the present time, multimedia has become such a big trend as it has granted us
opportunities to explore, create and develop vast amount of ideas and
innovations. Even people who have no previous experience in making videos,
pictures, animation and other media presentations can just go online and watch
video tutorials. People also use social networking sites where they can share
different types of media and update themselves with current events and happenings
in different fields. Multimedia also serves as a medium to relay and convey
messages. It has made communicating faster, easier and more efficient.
We
have been accustomed to using multimedia in our everyday lives that it will be
impossible to be without it. Multimedia has opened our eyes to new
possibilities. We have also seen its capabilities. As new technology unfolds,
multimedia will continue to grow and expand as time passes. The best we can do
is brace ourselves for more new things to come.
